Community garden will continue to bloom under new lease agreement

10/03/2016

A thriving hub of activity where local green thumbs meet to grow food, socialise and keep fit, the Linde Community Garden has become a valuable asset in promoting the wellbeing of city residents.

In recognising this, the Council unanimously voted at its meeting on April 7 2016, to renew the NPSP Community Garden Association’s lease agreement for a five year term, enabling the garden to prosper into the future.

Established in early 2010, on the site of a former artificial bowling green, the Linde Community Garden has transformed a pocket of underutilised open space into a green oasis boasting organically grown fruit, vegetables and herbs.

Mayor Robert Bria said he is delighted that the Council has supported the renewal of its lease agreement with the NPSP Community Garden Association.

“The Linde Community Garden is a great initiative which encourages locals to get back to growing their own food and connecting with the environment. The garden also offers our residents a place to learn new skills, keep active and socialise,” he said.

The garden is also a model for good environmental practice, demonstrating ways to save water, reduce waste and promote biodiversity. While the Dunstone Grove- Linde Reserve Storm Water Harvesting & Reuse Scheme will provide water to the community garden.

Located in the south western corner of Linde Reserve, the development of the community garden was approved by the Council, as part of the Dunstone Grove - Linde Reserve Master Plan Project.

The garden is open to members every day with hands on learning opportunities for members ranging from building a worm farm to propagating plants from seeds.

Membership of the Association is open to all, but priority is given to residents of the City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters and members of community groups which are located within the city.
